Tom's Bag

Our friend Annadeene asked me to make a bag for Tom, her husband. He is a mandolin player and she envisioned a bag that could hold his assortment of music notebooks, sheet music and songbooks, as well as another pocket for holding the tuner, capo and picks.

I was glad she asked because having a specific project to do helps  provide focus on making bags, which is something I really enjoy doing but have a hard time making time for unless there is a goal or purpose.

I modeled the bag on a shoulder bag I have and use all the time.

Altogether I am pretty happy with how it came out, but I still have a ways to go and lots to learn to make something that feels like it'd be good enough to sell, which I'd like to do sometime.

Guess what- it came in time to open under the tree, and Tom LOVES it (so do I), it is well made and very handsome. (Just like the recipient and the bag maker.) He is taking it on the road tonight to a gig at Simington Corners- Rockport Maine. Thank you Dave! Perhaps there would be a market for them at Aarhus some day?
love, Annadeene

Hey Annadeene,

I'm psyched that Tom is enjoying his bag and I'm glad to hear he's putting it to work already. Nice. I hope the gig goes great.

I made point of not telling you I'd created a post about the bag until after Christmas.

See you soon?

Dave

Bag looks absolutely terrific. Where did you find the waxed cotton and would be to do a bag or two on commission?

Hi Leslie,

I'd be completely excited to make a bag or whatever you might have in mind. Let me know what you are thinking.

Finding waxed cotton has been hit or miss. I struck gold with Seattle Fabrics. They had a variety and I bought a bunch of stuff.

Best,

Dave

I had heard about Seattle Fabrics and have recommended them to some folks look for waxed fabrics (although I wasn't sure what they actually had on offer).

Will consult with my friend Tom and get back to you about possible bag designs.

You could totally be the next Frost River.
